Rates

Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center

Spoke the Hub rents two spaces at our Union Street location for dance and theater rehearsals. Our rehearsal rates are subsidized, in part, through funding from the New York State Council on the Arts.

There are two rate categories for rental:
$15/hr – up to 5 hours per calendar month
$10/hr – for additional hours over 5 hours per calendar month

NOTE: These spaces are only available during office hours.

How to Rent / Who to Contact

How to Rent

  • Visit our Rental Calendar
  • Select an available space and time
  • Create or login to your MindBody account
  • Select the start time and end time and add any notes that are pertinent to your request
  • Click either “Request Single Appointment” or “Request Recurring Appointment”

An email will be sent to our Space Rental Coordinator who will follow up with you regarding the space availability. Last minute rentals can not always be accommodated.

FIRST TIME SPACE RENTERS

  • In order to secure space, Space Renter must pay for space in full
  • Review, Sign and return Space Rental Contract to 748 Union St. and receive keys.

KEYS

  • A $35.00 refundable key deposit is required of all renters.
  • Keys must be picked up from, and returned to Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center, 748 Union Street (@ 6th Ave) Brooklyn.
  • Under no circumstances may keys be copied or lent to another person without permission from Spoke the Hub.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations with less than four (4) weeks notice will not be refunded.

Parties


Kids Party (ages 3-12)

Spoke the Hub’s Union Street space is a great place for a kids party.

Spoke the Hub Provides

  • Spoke the Hub’s Main Floor Studio – 748 Union Street
  • CD Player and iPod Sound System
  • 3 large folding tables for cake display, food items and gift collection
  • 25 folding chairs
  • 1 coat rack with hangers
  • Use of refrigerator and sink
  • Garbage cans and recycling bins

Space Renter Provides / Is Responsible for

  • Set up and clean up* of space
  • Decorations (space and table)**
  • Party Favors
  • Food, Refreshments & Ice
  • Linens & Paper Goods (paper cups, napkins, paper plates, utensils)
  • Serving Utensils, Can/bottle openers, etc.
  • Photographer / Videographer

* You may arrange beforehand for STH to clean up after an event for a $75 fee.

**All decorations, equipment, and additional furnishings imported by the Space Renter for the event, and anything else that might present a safety hazard for guests or the building, including hanging things overhead or on the walls, must be approved by STH in advance.

Rental Rates

  • Minimum Rental is 3 hours at the rate of $400.00
  • Same Day, Additional Hours (or parts of hours) $100.00/hr (must be scheduled in advance)
  • Set-up and clean-up time must be included in time booked. (Please note that renters are responsible for to setting and cleaning-up the space unless, prior to your event, you arrange for your Spoke the Hub Representative to clean the space.)

STH Teaching Artist

A STH Arts or Entertainment Specialist may be available upon request for an $100 fee. They will provide 45-60 minutes of structured group activities based on the party’s theme, your suggestions, and their teaching experience.

STH Representative

All parties require a Spoke the Hub Representative be on site. They are there to answer your questions, lock and unlock the space, help supervise your helpers in setting up and cleaning up the space, greet and direct guests at the door during the party/event and to make sure your event runs smoothly and safely. STH Representatives DO NOT set up, clean up or supervise children without prior arrangement.

One STH Rep is included in your rental package. An additional Spoke the Hub Representative must be hired at $25/hour for every 20 guests above 30.

Cancellations

Cancellations with less than four (4) weeks notice will not be refunded.

Example: 2 Hour Children’s Party Schedule (3 hour total rental time)

  • 3:30 – Space Renters arrive a half hour before party is scheduled to begin to set out refreshments and to make last minute space decor “adjustments” and additions.
  • 4:00 – Party begins and guests arrive, socialize, and get settled in for the first half hour. (No structured activities.)
  • 4:30 – Arts activity begins with Arts or Entertainment specialist and continues for an hour.
  • 5:30 – The last half hour is for guests to socialize again, say good-bye, pack-up, and exit. (No structured activities.)
  • 6:00 – Space Renters Clean up (unless they have arranged and paid $75 for STH’s cleaning service)
  • 6:30 – Space Renters sign out with STH Rep

Teen or Adult Parties / Mitzvahs / Receptions

Spoke the Hub’s Space at Gowanus Arts Center is the perfect place to host any party or gathering.

Spoke the Hub Provides

  • Access to the Main Space at Gowanus Arts Building at 295 Douglass St.
  • Space includes a small lobby area and bathroom
  • 3 large folding tables for cake display, food items and gift collection
  • 50 folding chairs
  • CD Player and iPod Sound System (not industrial strength – for louder music, space renter must hire their own DJ who must bring their own sound equipment.)
  • Access to sink and refrigerator
  • 1 large coffee urn for hot water or coffee
  • 1 large silver metal bowl for ice
  • 1 coat rack with hangers
  • Use of refrigerator
  • Garbage cans and recycling bins

Space Renter Provides / Is Responsible for

  • Set up and clean up* of space
  • Decorations (space and table)**
  • Party Favors
  • Food, Refreshments & Ice
  • Linens & Paper Goods (paper cups, napkins, paper plates, utensils)
  • Serving Utensils, Can/bottle openers, etc
  • Photographer / Videographer
  • DJ if a more elaborate sound system is needed
  • Supervision of guests

STH Representative

All parties require a Spoke the Hub Representative be on site. How To Rent
Before you book space:

  • Please check our Rental Calendar for space and time availability
  • When you find an available date/time that you would like to book, please email Lori Jorgensen or call 718.408.3234 x1 during her business hours as listed above. Please be prepared to discuss the nature of the event and the number of people that will be in attendance.

Next Steps:

  • Find a time to see the space (must arrange with Lori)
  • Review and Sign Party Rental Contract
  • In order to secure space, Space Renter must pay a security deposit and/or pay for the space in full.
  • Please note that last minute rentals can not always be accommodated.


Performances / Events


Showings, Meetings, Conferences, Retreats, Workshops, Auditions, Video & Photo Shoots

Rental Rates

  • Minimum Rental is 3 hours at the rate of $200.00*
  • Same Day, Additional Hours (or parts of hours) $50.00 p/hour (must be scheduled in advance)
  • Set-up and clean-up time must be included in time booked. (Please note: Renters are responsible for to setting and cleaning-up the space unless, prior to event, an arrangement has been made for STH Representative to perform this service.)
  • STH Approval is required for all video and photo shoots

Performance Packages

Bare Bones Single Performance

Rental Rates

  • Minimum Rental is 6 hours at the rate of $600.00*
  • Same Day, Additional Hours (or parts of hours) $50.00 p/hour (must be scheduled in advance)
  • Set-up and strike must be included in time booked. (Please note: Renters are responsible for to setting and cleaning-up the space unless, prior to event, an arrangement has been made for STH Representative to perform this service.)

Spoke the Hub Provides

  • Main Performance Space on 3rd floor of the Gowanus Arts Building at 295 Douglass St.
  • Dimensions: Approx. 38 x 50
  • House Size: Approx. 75 people (includes folding chairs on three risers, chairs on floors as well as floor cushions)
  • Basic Lighting Plot – Must pay STH Technician $35 p/hour it is in use

Space Renter Provides / Is Responsible for

  • Set-up and Strike of Space
  • Hiring STH Technician at $35 p/hour to be present at all times that light board and sound system is in use.
  • Stage Hands, Box Office Personnel, Lighting Designer, House & Stage Managers
  • Rental of any additional lighting or technical equipment
  • Piano tuning
  • Additional Liability Insurance
  • Program design and printing
  • PR/Marketing and additional promotional materials (with credit lines to be reviewed and approved by Spoke the Hub prior to printing and distribution)
  • Photography & Videography
  • Renting Artist keeps all box office proceeds

Payment:

  • Non-refundable deposit of $100 reserves space for artist
  • Initital payment of $250 is due 2 months prior to performance
  • Final payment of $250 is due the Monday 2-weeks prior to the performance weekend.
  • Additional costs accrued during performance week are due at this time.

Upgraded Single Performance

Rental Rates

  • Minimum Rental is 6 hours at the rate of $1500.00*
  • Same Day, Additional Hours (or parts of hours) $50.00 p/hour (must be scheduled in advance)
  • Set-up and strike must be included in time booked. (Please note: Renters are responsible for to setting and cleaning-up the space unless, prior to event, an arrangement has been made for STH Representative to perform this service.)
  • Please Note: Spacing, technical, and dress rehearsals to be arranged around class schedule.

Spoke the Hub Provides

  • Main Performance Space on 3rd floor of the Gowanus Arts Building at 295 Douglass St.
  • Dimensions: Approx. 38 x 50
  • House Size: Approx. 75 people (includes folding chairs on three risers, chairs on floors as well as floor cushions)
  • Basic Lighting Plot
  • Light Board Operator for 12 hours – additional hours are booked at the rate of $25 p/hour

Space Renter Provides / Is Responsible for

  • Setting-up and Striking sets and any other items that were moved during the run
  • If Space Renter exceeds 12 hours with STH Technician, they must pay $25 p/hour to have STH Technician present at all times that light board and sound system is in use.
  • Stage Hands, Box Office Personnel, Lighting Designer, House & Stage Managers
  • Rental of any additional lighting or technical equipment
  • Piano tuning
  • Additional Liability Insurance
  • Program design and printing
  • PR/Marketing and additional promotional materials (with credit lines to be reviewed and approved by Spoke the Hub prior to printing and distribution)
  • Photography & Videography
  • Renting Artist keeps all box office proceeds

Payment:

  • Non-refundable deposit of $500 reserves space for artist
  • Initital payment of $500 is due 2 months prior to performance
  • Final payment of $500 is due the Monday 2-weeks prior to the performance weekend. Additional costs accrued during performance week are due at this time.

Three Performance Package

Rental Rates / Additional Costs

  • Three performances at the rate of $2500.00*
  • Additional Performances : $750 p/show
  • Subsidized Rehearsal Space prior to performance week: $10 p/hour
  • Additional tech, dress and performance space time: $35/hour
  • Equipment/Prop/Set storage: $25 p/week
  • Key deposit: $35
  • Please Note: Spacing, technical, and dress rehearsals to be arranged around class schedule.

Spoke the Hub Provides

  • Main Performance Space on 3rd floor of the Gowanus Arts Building at 295 Douglass St.
  • Space for shows for the following days/times:
    Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30p – 10:30p
    Sundays from 4:00p – 8:00p OR 6:30p – 10:30p
  • Spacing Rehearsal (3 hours to be arranged)
  • Technical Rehearsal (4 hours to be arranged)
  • Dress Rehearsal (3 hours to be arranged)
  • Dimensions: Approx. 38 x 50
  • House Size: Approx. 75 people (includes folding chairs on three risers, chairs on floors as well as floor cushions)
  • Basic Lighting Plot
  • Light Board Operator for Tech, Dress and all three performances
  • House Manager (at performances only)
  • Online Ticket Reservation System (managed by STH)

Space Renter Provides / Is Responsible for
