Using the sometimes slow and messy democratic process in art-making we present a program that offers campers a chance to ‘elect’ their day’s experience. Throughout the day, campers will explore the process of making art, music, dance and news using creative problem solving, collaboration and creativity to further their unique vision.

Campers can ‘elect’ a morning and afternoon session from 3 great programs:

Brooklyn Music Factory

Morning Session: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Afternoon Session: 1:30am – 3:00pm

Has your child been singing into a spoon? Playing air guitar in front of the mirror? Creating tunes that are all his or her own? This class is his/her opportunity to write, play, and record an original song at the Brooklyn Music Factory’s songwriting mini camp! Through drum circles, brainstorming games and jamming in our fully equipped rehearsal space, kids get a taste of what it means to be a songwriting musician and have a blast while doing it! Best of all, they will be able to play their mixed masterpiece for all their friends afterwards.

SMARTY PENS w/ Deepali Srivastava

Morning Session: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Afternoon Session: 1:30am – 3:00pm

Smartypens: Where digital natives write
A multimedia journalism workshop for Kids! Children will observe, interview and investigate camp activities and self – initiated subject matter. They will use digital cameras for visuals and learn to write confidently and tell stories as they see them. The unfiltered, unbiased, and well written copy will be presented in an on-line blog accessible to all campers at the end of the week.

Spoke The Hub ART & MOVEMENT

Morning Session: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Patterns & Beats w/ Gail Flannery – 9:00am – 10:30pm
Students will be introduced to simple mixed media collage techniques using common materials and musical themes that will allow them to create an original artwork to be taken home at the end of the day.

Contemporary Dance w/ Stephanie Franck – 11:00- 12:00pm
Set choreography is explored in combinations across the floor, while structured improvisations honor and unleash the unique and expressive voice of each individual dancer.

Afternoon Session: 1:30am – 3:00pm

HIP HOP w/ Mindy Rebman
With a focus on fun and personal expressiveness, this contemporary dance class will teach students about rhythm, musicality, isolations, and coordination using the hottest dance music of today for inspiration! The session will include a freestyle improvisation section that will allow students to express their own unique personalities through both original movement and dance concepts introduced in class.
