MLK Day

This year, as part of Spoke the Hub’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Peace Finding and Keeping” Day, we are bringing back our “Here Comes The Sun!” sun salutation marathon. All proceeds raised from this year’s event will go toward supporting the Consolation Center-Haiti, a new girl’s orphanage and school which Spoke the Hub has been partners with since 2010.
This year our sun salutations will be accompanied and energized by drummer, Gabriella Dennery, of GraceDrums.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS We begin the day “saluting the sun” in a fundraising marathon where we ask all participants to have friends pledge in advance up to $1p/sun salutation completed by YOU (you keep track of your asanas with beans dropped in a bowl). All levels of experience are welcome as we will have three different areas of activity and expertise going simultaneously.

* Suggested donation for drop-in participants at the door: $25.00 *

Dolores Natividad: will lead a “chair yoga” group for those with physical challenges, health limitations, or those who need to move at a slower, more gentle pace

Mina Hamilton: will lead a beginning/intermediate group

Rachel Odoroff: will lead an intermediate/advanced group

ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN  Suggested donation: $20 for all activities and art materials *
For Children (ages 3 and up)
From 10:00am – 2:00pm, Sarah Pope, Diane Castelucci and Jennifer von Graevenitz will lead a peace-filled morning of creative dance, yoga, meditation, arts and crafts, songs, story telling, and discussion centered around the concepts of “kindness”, “generosity”, “listening”, “mindfulness”, “peace”, and “creative problem solving”.

For Children (ages 6-8 and 9-12)
Athena Malloy will introduce kids to the principles of the healing modality, “Zero Balancing”. They will learn how to make choices about how they relate to themselves and others. Through exercises, meditations, art and sharing, they will become more conscious. In turn, by becoming more conscious, they will have more facility to choose full, peaceful lives.

11:30-12:30 Session 1 (for 9-12 year olds)
12:30-1:30 Session 2 (for 6-8 year olds)
